Comox Valley to Host 2009 IPC World Cup
With the 2010 Olympics a mere 707 days away, winter athletes around the globe are competing in elite level competitions in preparation for the Games. The Comox Valley and Mount Washington will once again welcome some of these athletes to their region, thanks to being named the host destination for the 2009 International Paralympic Committee Nordic and Biathlon World Cup.
This World Cup will be paired with the 2009 IPC World Cup final and Paralympic Winter Games sport event to be held at Whistler Olympic Park the week of March 12-15, 2009.
The Comox Valley will be working in partnership with VANOC in the coordination of these two events, which are also used for training sport and other event officials for the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games.
Susan Kelsey, Chair of the Comox Valley Spirit of BC Community Committee, and former Olympian, was thrilled by the announcement, “The Comox Valley and Mount Washington have done an incredible job in developing the infrastructure needed to host this level of competition. We are so proud to welcome those athletes.”
