Marketing Opportunities
Selling Agricultural Land for Agricultural Production
In the new Comox Valley Economic Development (CVEDS) 5-year Strategic Plan, agriculture and food and beverage processing were deemed to be the Comox Valley’s number one economic growth priority for the coming years.
With the Valley’s excellent soil quality and clean water, combined with its superb climate and abundant land for agricultural opportunities, the region is in an ideal position for new expansion with only 1/3 of available agricultural land currently being utilized. Not only that, Comox Valley agricultural land is more than affordable relative to the Alberta, Greater Vancouver and other growing regions.
Recognizing this unique opportunity, local governments and CVEDS have committed resources to design and implement a significant investment and marketing strategy which will drive interest to available lands for agricultural production and attract food and beverage producers to the Comox Valley over the next three years.
Utilizing the theme of the Comox Valley as the New Provence, the success of this agri-investment focus will be enhanced by partnering with progressive real estate agents and property owners who recognize the power of co-operative marketing in this unique sector.
The campaign will be targeted to producers and investors in British Columbia, Alberta and International markets. This integrated multi-media campaign will include print advertising, website marketing, trade shows participation, editorial content development and media visits, and print materials including extensive sector investment fact sheets.
Backing this marketing effort is the CVEDS team who will generate leads at shows, assist agents and clients by providing integrated investment profiles, business plan development, site location assistance and analysis, business connections and conferencing to facilitate communication between an investor and local and provincial government levels.
Here are the opportunities….
Partnered Print Advertising:
Print ads will be designed and bannered by the CVEDS utilizing the New Provence creative. The ads will depict the Comox Valley as being the best region for farm and food and beverage investment opportunities. Real estate companies, agents and developers will have the opportunity to list their properties and land opportunities in formatted space below the New Provence bannered portion of the ad.
The ads will drive visitation to the New Provence website, where the print ads will be shown, with live hot links to the real estate listings which appear in each ad, allowing readers the opportunity to further investigate properties and contact agents for more information. This will also allow for tracking the effectiveness of each of the ads.
The publications chosen for the regional market are considered mainstream investment and farming publications which include Country Life in BC, the Western Investor and the Western Producer. Depending upon the type of listing that come from partners, publications can change or be added to target the type of properties relative to the publications’ reader and distribution.
Print Advertising Costs:
CVEDS will contribute financially to the costs of each ad, thereby lessening the buy-in for the agents and companies. CVEDS will also contribute the staff time to coordinate the ads and cover the design costs to ensure consistent and effective advertising. Costs to have a formatted ad depends on the number of participants but could range from $200 - $300
Proposed Print Advertising Calendar:
Based upon the harvesting season and to compliment our show season presence, this draft schedule runs from October to December and outlines possible sizes and relative costs of ad buys, which may change once the number of partners are confirmed.
Trade and Consumer Show Presence:
CVEDS will attend at least 6 trade and consumer shows in 2006/07 presenting the Comox Valley as the agri-investment opportunity in British Columbia. Agents, companies and developers have the opportunity to have their listings and marketing materials taken by the CVEDS staff to be promoted during the show.
Confirmed Shows to Date include:
10th Annual China International Fair, China, September 8-11
International West Coast Seafood Show, LA, October 15-16
Process/Pack Expo, Chicago, October 29-November 2
FarmFair International, Edmonton, November 3-11
Canadian Western Agribition, Regina, November 20-25
Pacific Agricultural Show, Abbotsford, February 2007
Costs: $300/agent or business/show includes all agri-investment property listings taken to each show, with accompanying business cards and brochures distributed to leads.
Agri-Investment Website Marketing:
All marketing materials will drive interest to the agri-investment section of the soon-to-be-launched Comox Valley Economic Development website. The ads that will run in the various publications will come to life on this site, with live links from the ad to the detailed property listings of the agents. Ads will have specific url addresses that will allow the viewer direct access to the information, while at the same time provide CVEDS another mechanism to track the effectiveness of each publication.
Costs: Live links from the website to your specific listings, $100/publication ad
