2009 IPC World Cup


   
 

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) 2009 Cross Country and Biathlon World Cup Finals will take place at Mount Washington on March 11-14, 2009. This is the second time in 2 years that the Comox Valley has been host to this prestigious event. Elite athletes will compete for world cup points in the two separate disciplines.

Opening Celebrations

For the Opening Celebration, the Cumberland Recreation Centre is the location for the "Taste of Vancouver Island" banquet sponsored by BC Ferries and catered by the North Island Chef's Association. At this culinary sensation athletes and guests will be treated to appetizers at a standing reception. The evening will include welcome speeches, First Nations dancers, and the opportunity to meet the Paralympic athletes.

   
   

We hope to see you on Mount Washington and cheer on these highly regarded athletes. Race days will be from March 11-14. Get caught up in the excitement of the races, ring a cow bell, make a flag for your favourite country and take a walk over to the biathlon range. Mount Washington staff will be on hand with a number of different nordic opportunities for you and your family to get involved in. Don’t forget to dress for all different types of weather from jackets and gloves to sunscreen.

Sunday March 8

Welcome & Opening Celebrations

3:30 pm - Homemade Bobsled Race
Dunsmuir Ave, Cumberland
Come down to cheer on your favorite team!
 
4:30 pm - Parade of Athletes
Following the Bobsled Race, stay to welcome these international athletes at the Parade led by a pipe band down Dunsmuir Avenue. This event is free to the public so bring your family and friends.
   
5:00 pm - Taste of Vancouver Island

The Cumberland Recreation Centre is the location for the "Taste of Vancouver Island" banquet sponsored by BC Ferries and catered by the North Island Chef's Association.

Tickets for the banquet will be on sale at www.mountwashingtonworldcup.com and at the Comox Valley Chamber of Commerce. Tickets are $40.00 payable by cheque or cash only at the Chamber or by credit card online.
