The Comox Valley owes its name to the original inhabitants of this beautiful region. Roughly translated, Comox means plentiful, rich or wealthy and the Comox Valley certainly lives up to its name.
Often called the “Land of Plenty,” the Comox Valley boasts ocean to the east, mountains to the west and a wide range of cultural and recreational opportunities for both the visitor and the resident. Gateway to picturesque Hornby and Denman Islands on one side, and to the renowned Mount Washington Alpine Resort on the other, the Valley remains one of the few places where you can ski, golf, dive and kayak all in the same day.
The K'ómoks First Nation have long known the benefits of living in the area and wish to welcome investors to mutually profit from the bounty of their original territory.
Today the band boasts three distinct reserves located in the K'ómoks Area with the main community located at Comox Indian Reserve #1, which is adjacent to the Town of Comox. This is home to 160 people, including 106 members and 54 non-member residents. Total band population is 273 members. The second land base is Puntledge Reserve #2, which is located at the confluence of the Puntledge and Tsolum Rivers adjacent to the City of Courtenay. The third reserve land is located on Goose Spit and is adjacent to the Comox Harbour entrance.
